Preventing Windows Defender from detecting a virus

Post by sbvmp581 »

So, I'm one of those people who still has issues with VMProtect being detected as a virus.

I'm using VMProtect Ultimate v3.1.2.830 and I run an online game. It's just as a hobby, but I protect some of our code with a DLL that is updated from time to time and protected with VMProtect.

It's like, every time we do an update, Windows Defender prevents people from installing or updating the game unless they whitelist the game's folder.

Do you have any tips on how to prevent VMProtect from being detected as a virus? I use the Taggant system but I think Windows Defender doesn't support that?

I was thinking to get a code signing certificate, but I don't know if that will help at all either.

Is there any options I can set? Any workarounds? It's pretty annoying to deal with this all the time I have to do an update.

Of course I can send the file to Microsoft to get it whitelisted, but for EVERY UPDATE to our code? It's a lot of work!

Thanks

Are you sure that you didn't protect a malicious code?

I wouldn't be posting this and wasting your time if that was the case.

It's fine, though, I generated the code again and now it only fails 7 out of 64 now. Better than 20+.

There definitely isn't malicious code in the file but I wonder if someone is making false reports in order to stifle competition.

That's a lot better but still nowhere near perfect sbv, have you made any further progress?
